Yes, it must be an ostrich. Your daddy used the cyberage approach to identification. We ornerybirdathologists often google around on the Internet until we find a picture that helps identify a bird.

Now you must learn to spell ostrich.

Ty - I just gots to sit down and looked at this. Good choice to call it an Emu. That was the first thing it looked like to me. Maybe your Gramma is right tho. Maybe its a new species that was adapted specially for cute little dogs with no tails.

Well Ty, I have been thinking about this all day and it is a puzzlement. The biggest problem is the lack of wings. The only really wingless birds are the Kiwis of New Zealand. But they have short legs, big seperate toes and long thin beaks.

There are a lot of other birds that don't fly but they all have stubby wings. Are you sure you didn't chew the wings off? It does look a lot like an Ostrich or an Emu, but they don't have webbed feet and they do have wings.

Its shaggy body suggests a young Cormorant or a young Anhinga. They are water birds with long necks and they have webbed feet. But they fly and they have long wings.

I agree Ostrich/Emu is the thing that comes to mind at first glance. Perhaps it is a new species that has totally lost wings and has grown webbed feet as an adaption for running on mud flats or carpets cleaned by Roombas.

But I agree with your daddy. It definitely is not a turkey.

Grainger, my floppy bird has no stuffing. It makes it real hard to dissect it. I have tried and tried with no success! I can't dissect my floppy penguin either!

Oh, Ty. Bring him over here and I'll gladly discect him for you, making sure all of his appendages are removed and all that's left of him is his feeble outer shell. That's why I do with ALL of my stuffies.
